The primary drive consists of a chain and is hidden inside from dust. This chain should have a much longer life than the conventional chain outside. It uses cranks designed for e-bikes (ISIS spindle), meaning there is already a large selection nowadays.
The secondary drive is made up of a classic bicycle chain. It's like if you took a normal derailleur and moved it up to the top pivot. The derailleur is rotated upwards so it's much more protected from rocks. The small chainring (pinion) is close to the axis of rotation of the rear wheel and the chain extension is absolutely minimal, this helps the shifter last longer and precise shifting. The pinion has 14T (equivalent to a 32T chainring) and is currently stainless steel. The frame also has minimal pedal-kickback typical of high-pivots. With the chain running diagonally upwards, the frame is very quiet when riding.
